HNR Block (H & R Block)

HnR block (H & R Block): The big name in taxes

HnR block (H & R Block) is the best known name when it comes to preparing the American tax forms for the IRS. It did not start out as a tax service but like most successful business, they changed to provide the American consumer what they wanted.

This all stated back in the 1940’s when Henry Bloch was in the school of business at Harvard. He and his brother Leon borrowed some money and set up a business to assist small business with their accounting, tax management and accounts receivables. They did all right the first year but Leon was not satisfied and went back to school. In 1954 a client of Henry’s suggested he run an ad in the local newspaper advertising their tax service to the average consumer. People from all over the city came to have their personal taxes done and the business boomed. This was when he decided to specialize in tax preparations. Another thing was noticed that same year was that most clients had a problem pronouncing and spelling the name, Bloch. In January of 1955 the company was incorporated under a new name, H&R Block, Inc.

Today H&R Block has grown to become a major financial power with more than 13,000 offices in the United States. Because taxes are not exclusive to America, the company has learned the tax codes in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom and has opened 1300 office in those countries as well.

In 2008 this growing company had total revenue over $4.4 Billion. This amount has been growing steadily since the company was founded back in 1955. Today HnR block (H & R Block) is the name most American know for getting their tax form prepared right.
